We’re looking for skilled Automation Engineers!

We’re looking for passionate engineers that are keen for an opportunity to build and maintain our automated release platform, responsible for shipping our custom Operating System and software stack known as TrustedServer to the thousands of servers that operate our globally distributed services. You’ll be working in a dynamic environment where we solve unique challenges that we’re confident you won’t find in most other industries. You will be combining changes from developers across the organisation into a weekly rolling-release Operating System, working actively with QA to monitor for as-yet unknown bugs, and solving unique security challenges such as zero-access automation of Linux servers.

You should have experience in Configuration Management such as Ansible, Continuous Integration (CI), Release management, Linux Systems Administration and strong troubleshooting skills. Role Responsibilities

As an Automation Engineer in our Release Engineering team, you will be responsible for:

  • Being the funnel through which all changes and releases are managed 
  • Providing automated engineering solutions to the complex challenges faced
  • Building and maintaining our end-to-end test environment, enabling developers to build, install and test in a local dev environment using Vagrant and Docker
  • Building and operating orchestration tooling such as Rundeck and Ansible to effectively manage our fleet of servers
  • Building tooling and server management applications using well-tested Python
  • Integration testing the full stack that is TrustedServer comprising a Linux Operating System, in-house and external applications, Python libraries and configurations
  • Defining release and test plans to judge production-readiness of the various mainline and out-of-tree releases that will exist at any one time
  • Accountability for fast go/no-go decisions on our weekly production rolling-release of TrustedServer
  • Managing stakeholder expectations across the organization when coordinating a release
  • Documenting technical and non-technical processes
  • Curating and announcing changelogs

Role requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have experience in the following areas:

  • Working knowledge in some or all of:
    • Configuration management, such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
    • Orchestration systems, such as Ansible Tower or Rundeck
    • Linux Administration, especially for Debian-based distributions
    • Package management, such as Linux (Debian, Redhat RPM) and Python (Pip)
    • Writing Python code
    • Troubleshooting
    • Service Monitoring / Data Analysis
  • Ability to clearly explain issues and technologies
  • Good verbal communication in English
  • Good writing/documentation skills in English

Nice skills to have, but not required:

  • InfluxDB, Grafana and related time-series database technologies
  • Network engineering
  • Clear ticket writing
